SELF-TALK & AFFIRMATIONS
Last night I tried something new. I’m currently reading a classic book, Dr. Shad Helmstetter’s “The Self-Talk Solution” and also learning how to write more powerful affirmations. As I was preparing for bed last night, I thought “What if instead of some other practice (such as counting backwards from 100) to quiet my mind, I tried saying positive things to myself?” As I rested my head on the pillow, I began telling myself affirmations. I told myself dozens of things that are good about me and dozens of things I aspire to embody. I told myself as many positive things as I could think of with no requirement they be “true”.
I told myself: “I am kind, I am generous, I am a loving wife, I am a fabulous sister, I am a wonderful friend, I am caring, I am thoughtful, I am wise, I am beautiful, I am creative, I am engaged in projects I’m passionate about, I am healthy, I am strong, I am vibrant, I am living a life I love, I am inspiring, I am financially free, I am a leader, I am smart, I am magnetic, I am successful, I am fun to be with, I am a good cook, I am an artist, I am living in my dream home at the beach . . .” and more until my mind quieted and I slipped off into a deep and restful sleep.
“It makes no difference to your brain whether you have given it good programs or bad. The full awesome power of your brain will see to it that you live out the programs that are currently resting in your subconscious mind."
~ Shad Helmstetter from “The Self-Talk Solution”
We all have programming with erroneous code that we may not be aware of until we begin to examine it. These erroneous codes and “bugs” are usually put there by others we have encountered in our life experiences and we come to believe this programming and live our lives as if the programming was correct and true. Erroneous programming causes us to doubt ourselves, to believe there are limits on what we can do or be or have and keep us living lives that are less fulfilling than we desire. If, as Dr. Helmstetter says, our brains simply follow the programming they have received, why not do everything in our power to overwrite the erroneous code and improve the program and thus improve everything in our lives?
AFFIRMATION
I direct my thoughts with good intention and always speak positively to myself.
