KINDNESS IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH
I have long known that being kind to others makes ME feel good, and I strive to always think and speak kindly to myself and others. More recently I learned that people can experience very real health benefits by engaging in or witnessing acts of kindness.
“Kindness has been shown to increase self-esteem, empathy and compassion, and improve mood. It can decrease blood pressure and cortisol, a stress hormone, which directly impacts stress levels. People who give of themselves in a balanced way also tend to be healthier and live longer.”
~ Steve Siegle, L.P.C.,

Studies show that engaging in acts of kindness triggers a variety of reactions in the human body and rewards our bodies and minds with a boost of feel-good chemicals. Kindness increases production of:
oxytocin which increases self-esteem and optimism;
endorphins which are the brain’s natural painkiller;
serotonin which heals, calms and makes you happy;
dopamine which creates a feeling of euphoria.
Kindness reduces pain, stress, anxiety and depression and increases energy, happiness and pleasure. Kindness is even being used in treatments and therapies to improve a variety of health conditions. The key to maximizing the health benefits of kindness is to make kindness a habit and a true way of life. Best of all, kindness can be learned and kindness is contagious!
